Winnipeg to Gimli is about 90 km, roughly an hour and ten minutes north on Highway 8 or Highway 9 to the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. It's one of the most popular group day trips from the city: beach days, Interlake tours, lakeside weddings and the Icelandic Festival on the August long weekend.
Because the drive is short, groups often keep the bus for the day rather than paying for two separate runs. On summer long weekends, cottage traffic heading north on Friday and south on Sunday or Monday adds time, so plan departures accordingly.
